Bullet-hit body found along Shingnagar border in C'nawabganj

A bullet-hit body was found near Bangladesh-India border at Shingnagar in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj early today.

Deceased Manarul Islam, 27, was son of Nuhu Monna of Tarapur village in the upazila, reports our local correspondent.

According to locals, Manarul along with others was entering India through Shingnagar frontier for collecting smuggled goods around 3:00am.

The BSF troops allegedly opened fire while saw some people entering India through the border, leaving Manarul injured critically, the locals alleged.

Manarul received bullet in his chest and died on the spot, they said.

Later, his associates brought the body to his house at Tarapur village.

When contacted, Commanding Officer (CO) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-53 Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar told our correspondent that it is not clear that he was killed by the BSF.

“We are investigating into the incident,” he said.

The law enforcers visited the area and sent the body to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Shikdar Mosiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station.
