Road crashes kill 5 in Natore, Faridpur
At least five people were killed and 17 others injured in separate road accidents in Natore and Faridpur today.
In Natore, three people lost their lives after a truck hit a pick-up van around 6:30am at Ranigram in Gurudaspur, our local correspondent reports.
The deceased were identified as Ruhul Amin, 35, and Abdul Kader, 50, of Tarash upazila in Sirajganj; and Rakibul Hasan, 25, of Natore Sadar, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banpara Highway Police Station.
The accident took place when a goods-laden truck from Sirajganj rammed a pick-up van from behind, leaving three workers, who were onboard the van, dead on the spot, the OC said.
Ten other people were also injured during the accident, police said.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
In Faridpur, two persons including a woman were killed after a microbus skidded off the road and subsequently fell into a roadside ditch at Komorpur in Sadar upazila, our local correspondent reports.
The deceased were identified as Aslam, 35, son of Azahar Uddin and Asiya Begum, 29, both hailing from Boalmari upazila.
AFM Nasim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said, the accident occurred on Dhaka-Khulna Highway after driver of a Faridpur-bound microbus lost control over the steering around 12:30pm and plunged into a roadside ditch.
Both the victims died on the spot, the police official said adding that seven injured people were whisked off to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
