Govt not interfering in judiciary: Law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the government is not interfering with the judiciary and the other independent institutions of the country.
“The judiciary is now functioning quite independently. The judiciary should be independent for the sake of people’s development,” he said.
“All constitutional organisations including the judiciary will remain independent during the regime of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led government,” he said.
He was talking to reporters after attending as chief guest to a function organised by Dhaka based Kasba Association at Diploma Engineers Institution in capital’s Kakrail.
When asked about BNP’s allegation of the government delaying the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Anisul Huq said they (BNP) love to talk and they are doing it.
The trial court has convicted and sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years’ imprisonment and on her (Khaleda) appeal, the HC enhanced her punishment from five years’ imprisonment to 10 years’ imprisonment, Anisul Huq said, adding that the government had no interference in this regard.
