The handsome hunk of the Bangladeshi showbiz industry, Azim Uddula has made a name for himself in the South-Asian fashion scene. Azim has worked with many top brands of Bangladesh, and has wowed his fans with his charm and compelling good looks. This week, Star Showbiz caught up with him to talk about his love for fashion and his aspirations.  

Tell us something about yourself.

I’m the youngest of six children. I’m originally from Bagerhat, but have been living in Dhaka for more than fourteen years now. For my education, I majored in Accountancy. When I’m not modelling, I like to either make sure that I remain fit, or travel.

What motivated you to start modelling?

Back in 2010, when I was studying for my undergraduate, a friend suggested that I should start modelling. That motivated me to try my luck in the fashion industry.  

How did your modelling career start?

The first assignment I did was with Tanjim jeans. I enjoyed working in that project, and after that I decided to pursue a career in modelling.

Who was your biggest inspiration?

That has to be my father. He has always been my biggest inspiration.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I hope to still be a top model, both in the country and abroad. I also hope to grow my fashion line by then. I have just opened the first outlet for my fashion line in Banani; it’s called AZ. I hope to grow this, and create a chain of stores which will have quality Bangladeshi and Western style clothing available.

What qualities does an aspiring model require?

There is a misconception that modelling is just about good looks; but that is not true at all. This profession requires a lot of commitment and dedication. When you do an assignment, you have to know what the client wants, and then work in coordination with the stylist, designer and the photographer to translate the client’s vision into reality. So, one needs to be committed and dedicated in order to be able to work in the fashion industry.

Tell us about your dreams for the future.

I have a lot of dreams; however, modelling is my core passion, and I want to keep on giving this my best shot. I really love modelling and want to keep on doing this. I am also very keen on making my brand successful in Bangladesh, and maybe internationally as well. I also want to travel around the world, and explore different cultures, and meet different people.

What is your favourite modelling memory?

Over the years, I have weaved many memories. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many talented and wonderful people, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have worked with them. My career as a model has also provided me with the opportunity to establish my personal profile. It has helped me grow, both personally and professionally. Over time, I have evolved as a person, and a lot of it goes to my profession as a model.

If you are lucky enough to be doing what you love, you will never be bored with it.
