Buet students return to class after a week
Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) today returned to classes after a week following an assurance that their 16-point demand would be met.
The students, who started demonstration on June 15 boycotting classes and examinations, decided last night to join classes after receiving an official notice from the university authorities saying that they would meet all of their demands, Anis Rahman Mithu, a spokesperson of the demonstrators, told The Daily Star.
Students have been demonstrating to realise their demands, which include formation of a committee comprising teachers of civil engineering and architecture departments to build the Buet gate, introducing teacher evaluation system, digitising students’ payment process and increasing allocation in research sector.
On Thursday, the demonstrating students said they would end their agitation programme if the authorities issue an official notice regarding the fulfilment of their 16-point demand.
