Scuffles, crude bomb blasts at BNP office
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s expelled leaders and their supporters engaged in a scuffle at BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan this afternoon.
This was in their second consecutive day of protests against BNP central’s decision to break the previous Chhatra Dal committee and expel some leaders.
Like yesterday, over a hundred protesters of Chhatra dal, coming in a procession from Kakrail, assembled near BNP office’s front gate around 12:00noon.
At one stage, they cut off the power to the party office and got engaged in a scuffle with the other faction of leaders and activists present there.
Among those inside the office were around 40 party leaders inlcuding BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Oragnising Secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and ABM Mosharraf hossain.
Right after the demonstration ended around 1:00pm, two crude bombs exploded on the spot but no one was injured in the blasts.
Protests are taking place just days after the election committee of Chhatra Dal declared a fresh council on July 15 to include new leadership in the ranks.
It all started after the party dissolved JCD’s existing committee and included a new age ceiling, which triggered protests among post holders.
In continuation to the unfolding drama, BNP has stripped 12 JCD leaders of membership on accusations of breaching the organisational code of conduct.
