4 killed in Lalmonirhat, Mymensingh road crashes
At least four people were killed and seven injured in separate road accidents in Lalmonirhat and Mymensingh districts today.
Of the deceased, two people were killed on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway in Aditmari upazila while the others in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh, our local correspondents report.
In Lalmonirhat, the two persons were killed and seven injured as a Burimari land-port bound truck coming from Bogura hit an easy-bike coming from Kakina Wapda village at Palashi area of Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway at 8:30am.
The deceased, hailed from Kakina Wapda village of Kaliganj upazila, were identified as easy-bike passenger Nandu Chandra Roy, 45, son of Bishwanath Roy; and the driver Rabiul Islam, 40, son of Nur Islam of the same village.
The injured were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Aditmari Police Station.
The easy-bike was heading towards Lalmonirhat police lines carrying eight people of four families of the same village including four police constable job aspirants.
"Although the easy-bike gave side, the truck crashed it," the OC told our local correspondent quoting one of the injured.
Locals tried to stop the truck but it managed to flee the spot, he added.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
In Mymensingh, the two people were killed after a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Lengra Bazar in Muktagaccha upazila.
The driver and his assistant were killed on the spot.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Muktagaccha Police Station, said the accident took place around 6:30am when a Mymensingh-bound goods-laden truck fell into the ditch.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to local hospital for autopsy.
