Decision of gas tariff hike illogical, devoid of human elements: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today came down hard on the government for hiking the gas price and demanded the withdrawal of the decision.
“Gas price has been increased six times in the last 10 years and by doing so the government has turned into a blood-sucking machine,” Fakhrul said in his party’s instant reaction to the government decision on the gas price hike.
Claiming that the gas price has been increased to destroy the livelihood of people, Fakhrul said, “It was meant for only looting. It is illogical and devoid of human elements.”
“People has to count the extra charge. Anarchy and wailing are everywhere and the government cannot give the people anything except these,” the BNP leader said in the statement.
No situation has been created to increase the gas price, but the government has done this, Fakhrul said blaming the government for plunging the people into massive suffering.
“BNP thinks the gas price has been increased to make pockets of the big fishes of the government heavier,” he said.
The government is taking the anti-people decision as it was not elected by the people’s mandates, Fakhrul said alleging that the decision will only create a scope for the ruling party men to make money illegally.
“The government will have to back paddle from its stance. Otherwise, a strong movement along with the people will be enforced on the street protesting the anti-people decision,” he warned.
He also expressed strong condemnation to the government for increasing the gas price.
