Rahul Gandhi resigns as Congress president
Congress MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that he is no longer the President of the party. He also said that the party's working committee should meet immediately and decide on who would be the next president of the Congress.
It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation.
I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love.

Rahul Gandhi, addressing the media, said that he has already put in his papers from the post of Congress President and now it is up to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to appoint his successor soon.
"I am no longer the Congress president. I have already resigned. The CWC should convene a meeting immediately and decide on the new Congress president," he said when asked about the future course of the party.
"The Party should decide on the new president quickly without further delay. I'm nowhere in this process. I have already submitted my resignation and I am no longer the party president. CWC should convene a meeting at the earliest and decide," he added.
Rahul Gandhi has been adamant to resign from the post of Congress President since the party faced a drubbing in the recently held Lok Sabha elections in which Congress could win only 52 seats, only 8 more than its 2014 tally
Rahul Gandhi had, on Monday, met the Chief Ministers of the five Congress-ruled states, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Puducherry who persuaded him to stay but he reportedly did not budge.
"It is an honour for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation.
I owe the country and my organisation a debt of tremendous gratitude and love.
"Jai Hind" tweeted Rahul.
