‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Pabna cops
A suspected robber was killed in what police claimed was a gunfight in Bera upazila of Pabna district early today.
The deceased was identified as Md Waliullah, 31, hailing from the same upazila and is an accused in eight cases filed for robbery and drug peddling, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Md Shahed Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Bera Police Station.
Acting on a tip off, a police team of Bera Police Station arrested Waliullah from Bera municipality area yesterday night, the official said.
Later acting on information provided by Waliullah, police conducted a drive at Jorda area in the municipality, the OC said.
When the team reached the spot, Waliullah’s cohorts started firing on the police officials triggering a ‘gunfight’ in retaliation, the official added.
Waliullah suffered bullet injuries during the gunfight and was declared dead after he was taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex.
Police recovered a pistol, a shooter gun, 2 magazines, 6 round of bullets and 17 bottles of phensidyl from the spot.
