Moulvibazar tea workers continue demo on 2nd day
The workers of Ayeshabag Tea Garden in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar continued their strike for the second consecutive day today to press home their demands including the permission of cultivating paddy in fallow land inside the tea garden.
The workers were unmoved in their seven-point demand stance and vowed to continue their strikes until those are met, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports.
No classes were held in the schools in the area to the workers’ demonstration.
WHAT ARE THEIR OTHER DEMANDS?
Their other demands include right to planting trees adjacent to the houses, cattle farming and vegetable cultivation, demand for arrears and festival bonus, establishing schools in tea gardens and ensuring sanitation and pure water.
“We have been pressing for these demands since 2014 and we have placed our demands to the higher authorities as well but our words have been unheeded that’s why have decided to go on indefinite strike,” said Moni Bauri.
Ajit Bunarji, president of the tea garden’s panchayat committee, said, the workers went on the strike as they did not get any solution from the meeting held with the garden authorities over the demands this morning.
“We will continue our strike until the demands are met,” he said.
The tea garden’s manager Mizanur Rahman said, the demands made by the tea garden workers are being looked into and discussed with the owner.
