‘Robber’ killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’
A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna early today.
Deceased Saiful Islam Geda allies Gedalal, 30, a resident of Narashinghapur village in the same upazila, was the accused in five robbery cases, said Officer in charge of Sujanagar Police Station Arbinda Sarkar
He was also the listed member of inter district robbers’ gang, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting the police officer.
Tipped off, a team of Sujanagar police arrested Saiful from his village last night and started an operation along with the arrestee to recover firearms in different areas during the early hours of today, said OC Arbinda.
When the law enforces team reached at Hasampur field around 2:30am, Saiful’s cohorts opened fire targeting the law enforcers, he said.
The police team also retaliated with bullets triggering a “gunfight”. At one stage, Saiful was hit by bullet.
He was taken to Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead the OC said.
A shutter gun, two bullets and few firearms were recovered from the spot, the OC added.
Four policemen sustained minor injuries and they have received treatment from the health complex.
