Death in accident: Traffic sergeant’s father seeks compensation
The father of Golam Kibria, a traffic police sergeant who was killed in a road accident this month, filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives on the authorities concerned for Tk 10 crore compensation for his family.
The HC court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam fixed July 28 for hearing the petition submitted by Golam Kibria’s father Eunus Ali Sikder.
In the petition, Eunus Ali said his son was killed after a covered van of Jamuna Group ran over him when he was discharging duties on Barishal-Patuakhali highway near Barishal University in Barishal Sadar upazila on July 15.
He prayed to the court for passing an order asking the authorities concerned and Jamuna group to pay Tk 10 crore to his family as compensation.
On July 15, Kibria, 32, signalled a speeding truck to stop, but it tried to flee the scene by ignoring the signal. Then the sergeant chased the truck on his motorbike to stop it.
At that time, the truck hit him and fled the scene, according to police. Later, a murder case was filed.
Hailing from Subidkhali in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali, Kibria was serving as a traffic sergeant of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP), police said.
