Bribe allegation: ACC official Enamul sent to jail
A Dhaka court today sent Khandaker Enamul Basir, suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, to jail after rejecting his bail prayer in a case filed over the transaction of Tk 40 lakh as bribe.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judges Court of Dhaka passed the order after the ACC produced him before it and appealed to the court to send him to jail.
Enamul was arrested in the capital’s Mirpur by a team of ACC officials led by Director Sheikh Fanafillah Bawas yesterday on charges of bribery.
He was accused in the case on charge of taking Tk 40 lakh bribes from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
On July 16, ACC Director Fanafillah filed the case with the ACC’s Dhaka District Coordination Office-1 under the anti-money laundering act.
Following a TV news report, in which DIG Mizan alleged that Enamul took the bribe from him for clearing him of a graft allegation, the ACC formed a three-member investigation committee headed by Fanafilya and suspended Enamul.
In May last year, the ACC launched an enquiry into the wealth of Mizan of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The ACC had tasked Enamul with the enquiry. Mizan was arrested earlier.
