Renu murder: Another accused arrested
Police today claimed to have arrested a woman on charges of branding Taslima Begum Renu as a child kidnapper, leading to her death in mob beating in Badda area of Dhaka on July 20.
Riya Begum alias Moina, 27, a mother of a child of Badda Uttar-Purba Primary School, was arrested around 10:00pm on Thursday from Badda’s Satarkul area, said Abdur Razzak, inspector (investigation) of Badda Police Station.
Riya was among some guardians who intercepted the victim and branded her as a child kidnapper, he said adding that police are trying to arrest other accused.
With Riya, at least 14 people were arrested in connection with the murder.
Renu, 40, was killed in mob beating after she was apparently suspected as a child lifter when she went to the school in hope of getting her daughter admitted there.
According to the police and the school’s staffs, after entering the school Renu asked Riya about different matters on that day.

As Renu was inconsistent in her reply in counter questions by Riya and some other guardians, they suspected Renu and started shouting ‘child kidnapper’.
They took Renu to the office of the headmistress on the first floor of the four-storey school building from where unruly mob took her on the ground floor and gave her a good beating, leaving her dead.
Meanwhile, another accused Ibrahim Ridoy, 19, a vegetable vendor in Uttar Badda, gave confessional statement before a magistrate under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) today, Inspector Razzak said.
He gave a brief description of the whole incident and confessed his role in beating the woman to death in board daylight, he added.
