Child-lifting rumour: Youth escapes mob beating in Chattogram

A youth escaped death in mob beating as he managed to flee after local people caught him on suspicion that he was a child kidnapper in Hathajari area of Chattogram last night.

The victim was identified as Md Mumin, 20, son of Abdus Shukkur of Mirerkhal village in the municipality area.

Quoting locals, Belal Uddin Jahangir, Officer-in-Charge of Hathajari Model Police Station, said, Mumin was beaten mercilessly after a rumour spread  that he was a child kidnapper around 11:00pm at Chandrapur village in the municipality area.

He started to run to save himself from beating and fell down when he reached Abbachiar Pool area upon which locals admitted him to Hathajari Upazila Health Complex, the OC added. 

Dr Ridwan, medical officer of the health complex, said, Mumin got injuries on his head and was shifted to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
