Shamset Tabrejee’s poetic imagery on canvas
Well-known poet Shamset Tabrejee turns to the canvas when he fails to express his feelings properly with words. Udbastu Chirkut, Amro Kanone Mabhoi Koler Gaan, Osru Mobarak and Muhurtama are some of his many successful poetry books. His first solo exhibition, Muhurtama, is currently taking place at Dwip Gallery in Lalmatia.
Eminent artist Monirul Islam inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest on July 27 while renowned artist Nisar Hossain, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, poet Mashrur Arefin, the managing director of City Bank Limited, renowned artist Shishir Bhattacharjee and poet Sazzad Sharif attended the ceremony as special guests. The curator of the exhibition, well-known artist and critic Mustafa Zaman, spoke at the event.
“I try to capture moments mingled with my personal feelings on canvas. The title of exhibition, ‘Muhurtama’, suggests those connotations,” said Shamset Tabrejee. “My artistic quest revolves around actions, which attempt to express the realities of the moments I explore.”
The exhibition is a comprehensive showcase of a selection of paintings by the artist. The audience will find a determining character in his recently produced paintings, most of which are abstract in nature. The nuances of geometric forms, the diagonal stop mobility vision and critical annotations appear in some of paintings. The poetic imagery that he portrays with colours is composed of abstract elements, representing his own creative world. The exhibition will remain open from 3 pm to 9 pm daily except Mondays till August 22.
