5-tier security net for Nat'l Eidgah, Baitul Mukarram
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken five-tier security arrangements for National Eidgah ground and national mosque Baitul Mukarram for Eid prayers.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia disclosed the arrangements today after inspecting the security measures of national Eidgah.
The security arrangements include law enforcers in uniform and civil dress, SWAT and BOMB disposal units, watchtowers, Arch Ways and real-time CCTV monitoring systems.
People coming to National Eidgah ground for Eid prayers can only bring prayer rugs and umbrellas with them, the DMP boss said.
Everyone will have to undergo three-tier screening before entering the venue, he said, adding that similar security arrangement is in place for National Mosque.
“Devotees will be allowed to enter after being screened through archways and metal detectors,” said Asaduzzaman. There will be barricades on Abdul Gani Road, Doyel Chattar and Matsya Bhaban areas and no one will be allowed to enter the area with vehicles.
The devotees are not allowed to bring any bag, arms, knives or explosives with them, he said, adding that if necessary, the law enforcers would check the prayer rugs and umbrellas.
He further requested Dhaka dwellers to cooperate with the police.
The whole Eidgah area will be under CCTV camera surveillance. “The CCTV cameras will be monitored real-time from the temporary control room,” the DMP chief said.
Along with the arrangements, there will be fire tenders, medical teams and command vehicles standby.
