Purnima is inarguably one of the most prolific Bangladeshi actors to have graced the silver screen till date. Boasting a career spanning over 20 years, she has entertained the audience with numerous blockbusters, as well as performances as a television actor and an emcee. The Daily Star recently caught up with the veteran actor for a chat about her upcoming films, her latest telefilm, and more.

You recently acted in a telefilm for Eid ul Fitr. Tell us a little bit about it.

Honestly, I only choose to act in telefilms when the story and the character strike a chord with me. The telefilm I did this Eid ul Fitr was no different. The telefilm, titled Sublet, co-starring Apurba, was directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan.

Could you divulge a few details about the character you played in Sublet?

I don’t want to divulge much. The title of the telefilm is quite self-explanatory. I play the landlord’s character, whereas Apurba plays the role of a tenant. I don’t want to say any more than that. The audience can tune in to Bangla Vision on the 5th day of Eid ul Fitr, at 9 pm to watch the telefilm.

Did you act in any other projects this Eid ul Fitr?

No, Sublet was the only project I committed myself to. I am really hopeful that the audience will respond well to this telefilm.

According to reports, you are working in two upcoming films. How far along are those projects?

We have completed filming for the movie Jam, but are yet to finish dubbing. We are scheduled to resume filming for the other movie, Gangchil, after the Eid ul Fitr holidays. I have a few other offers lined up. But, for now, I am committed to these two films.

Where are you spending the Eid ul Fitr holidays?

I am staying in Dhaka. Since I don’t take up too many projects simultaneously these days, it is easier to manage holidays. I am just focusing on spending time with my family this time around.

What were your Eid celebrations like growing up?

Eid celebrations during my childhood were some of the most wonderful moments in my life, as it is for a lot of people. Eid festivities meant new clothes, delicious food and having fun with family. Those memories will remain etched in my heart forever.

Are you hosting any upcoming shows?

Not at the moment. I have completed the show Ebong Purnima. It was quite a success. I have been receiving offers to host new things, but haven’t committed to anything yet. Right now, I am only taking up some occasional stage shows now and then.
