Mob kills 2 ‘criminals’ in Pabna
Two alleged criminals were beaten to death by a mob during a police drive in Pabna’s Santhia upazila early today.
The deceased have been identified as Shahin alias Halka Shahin of Jorgachha village and Mashir Mia alias Kalu of Daramda village of the upazila, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Sheikh Jillur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police(ASP) of Bera circle.
Acting on a tip off that gang of “criminals” gathered at Jorgachha village, a team of police conducted a drive there around 12:00am, the police official said.
During the drive the alleged criminals scattered and jumped into a canal attempting to escape. The villagers however chased them and managed to catch Shahin and Mashir and beat them up, said the ASP.
Upon information, police arrived at the spot and rescued the duo. They first took the injured to Bera Health Complex and later to Pabna General Hospital where the doctors declared them dead, the ASP said.
There were five cases filed against Shahin with different police stations, the police official also said.
Bodies of the deceased were sent to Pabna Medical College morgue for autopsy.
