Fire at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi under control

A fire that broke out at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Hospital in New Delhi this evening has been brought under control.

The PC building, where the fire broke out, is situated near the emergency block at the hospital. The fire has been brought under control, reports The Statesman quoting officials.

A total of 34 firefighting units rushed to AIIMS to douse the blaze after being informed about the incident at around 4:50pm (local time), a senior fire service official told The Statesman.

The PC building does not have patients and mainly comprises doctors' rooms and research labs, The Statesman reports.

The officials said that there was widespread panic among those present at the spot, however, no casualties have been reported so far.

"The fire in AIIMS building will be brought under control at the earliest. Fire Service trying it's best to extinguish the fire. I appeal to everyone to maintain calm and allow the Fire Services personnel to do their work," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in Twitter earlier.

Former Union minister Arun Jaitley is presently undergoing treatment at the institution.

Officials at the hospital are shifting the patients while the Emergency Lab, the Super-specialty OPD ward and the AB1 ward have been shut down.
