2 building owners jailed after Aedes larvae found

A mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today sent the owners of two buildings to jail as Aedes mosquito larvae were found on their building premises in the capital’s Science Laboratory area. 

They were identified as M Saju and Nazrul Islam, owners of holding no 43 and 44 on Mirpur Road in the area, according to a DSCC press release. 

The mobile court led by DSCC’s Executive Magistrate Mizanur Rahman conducted the drive at the two buildings today and sentenced Saju and Nazrul to jail for one day each as the court found Aedes mosquito larvae on the buildings’ premises, the release read. 

Five mobile courts of the DSCC today inspected 198 buildings in different areas, including Science Laboratory, Jatrabari and Shantinagar, to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae and mosquito breeding grounds. 

During the drives, Executive Magistrate Sheikh Jahid Hasan fined Tk 30,000 to the owner of Concord Twin Tower in Chamelibagh of Dhaka as Aedes mosquito larvae and stagnant water were found on the building premises, the release read. 

Besides, the other mobile courts also fined the owners of five buildings a total of Tk 6,000 as Aedes mosquito larvae were found on the premises of those buildings. 

The five building owners were also asked to stay alert and ensure cleanliness on the premises of their houses, the press release added.
