Nazrul’s death anniversary observed at JKKNIU
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Mymensingh observed the 43rd death anniversary of our National Poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, on August 27. The JKKNIU community placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Nazrul at their campus, and organised a discussion on the life and work of the poet.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Dr AHM Mustafizur Rahman, inaugurated the programme. The Treasurer of the university, Prof Md Jalal Uddin and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Dr Md Shahabuddin, delivered speeches at the programme. Several other professors, including Dr Rashid-un-Nabi, Dr Md Nazrul Islam, Dr Ahmedul Bari, Md Shafiqul Islam and Dr Md Humayun Kabir from the university also spoke, shedding light on Nazrul’s writings against oppression and repression.
Furthermore, the Institute of Nazrul Studies at JKKNIU distributed stipends to 13 meritorious students. The stipends were in honour of Promila Devi, Kazi Sobyasachi, Kazi Anirudhha and Bulbul, all of whom were family members of Nazrul. Each of the students received certificates and BDT 10,000.
Nazrul came to Trishal in Mymensingh in 1899. He studied at Darirampur High School, which is known as Nazrul Academy today.
