Three more die from dengue

Three more, including two children, died from dengue in Dhaka, Rangpur and Faridpur yesterday. 

With them, 123 people have so far died this year after being infected with the mosquito-borne disease.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), however, has so far confirmed 52 deaths. Some 1,189 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, it said.

The DGHSadded that the number of dengue suspected deaths was 180. Of them, it reviewed the deaths of 88 and confirmed 52 deaths from the disease.

Kinkar Ghosh, epidemiologist of Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital, said nine-year-old Siam, of Madaripur, lost his battle against dengue at 6:00pm yesterday.

In Rangpur, Monisha Aktar, a 12-year-old girl, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital early yesterday. She had been suffering from the disease for 14 days.

Victim’s maternal uncle Rabiul Islam said Monisha and her mother were admitted to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur on August 15 with dengue fever.

Though the mother recovered, her daughter was moved to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on August 26 in a critical condition.

Monisha breathed her last yesterday, said AKM Shaheduzzaman, associate professor of RMCH medicine department.

In Faridpur, Sajib Das, 22, of Bhanga upazila, died from dengue at a private hospital in the capital.

His cousin Amit Das said Sajib was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Tuesday after being diagnosed with dengue.

He was referred to Dhaka on Wednesday night as his condition worsened. He died at a private hospital in the capital around 10:30am yesterday, Amit added.
