Minar Magic continues!

One of the most successful young artistes in the music industry today, Minar is a proverbial “hit machine”. He has created a long-lasting craze with his soothing voice and unique compositions. The singer, cartoonist and writer talks to The Daily Star in an exclusive interview, where he opens up about his latest projects, the industry and his future plans.

Could you tell us about your latest projects?

I am actually set to release my latest song, Ami Tomar Kache Jabo, on my official YouTube channel this week. It will be accompanied by a music video. I recently found sponsors for a highly ambitious project, which I will not disclose for now. I also plan to write and illustrate another book for the next Ekushey Boi Mela.

You generally write and compose your own songs. Could you talk us through the process?

I usually compose the music for a particular song first, and then work on the lyrics. It can be a simple piano piece or a catchy guitar riff. However, it is not a set rule, and I can spontaneously come up with some lyrics, then give it life with music later. As I compose almost every day, I have a myriad of songs and demos waiting for release.

It has often been said that it is difficult in this industry to survive only doing music as a profession. What are your comments on this?

Music is my passion and profession. It is something that I cannot survive without. However, it is true that the music industry in Bangladesh lacks the structure to enable many musicians to flourish, if they dedicate themselves to music alone. Being a musician is not easy, as recording, promoting and releasing a single song is a gargantuan task in itself. The music industry needs a lot more investment and nurturing, for more artistes to be able to be full-time professional musicians.
