Photo: Sheikh Mehedi Morshed

The five-day festival, titled Syed Mohidul Islam Smaran Utshab 2019, organised by Batikrom Natya Goshthi, concluded with the play Girgiti on Wednesday. The play was performed by Gronthik Natya Goshthi at National Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

Written and directed by Motiur Rahman Rana, the story revolves around the life of a middle-class family. Fotik (Michel) is the head of this family, and Sohirun (Nazma Akhtar) is his wife. The couple is bestowed with two overconfident children, tend to day-dream all the time.

With the determination to excel, the daughter wants to become an actor, and the son wants to earn fame as a poet. Thus, Chaalbaaz (Foysal Alam), Dhandabaaz (Babul), and Fondibaaz (Kamrul Ahsan Chandan) make way into their lives.

With impeccable con-comedy paired with humourous dialogues, Girgiti is a rather entertaining production to watch. The satirical story not only amuses but also portrays realities on the stage, with tints and bits of moral learning and wit for the audience.
