‘Mayaboti’ and ‘Obotar’ faring well at the box office
Two films, Mayaboti and Obotar, were released nationwide on September 13. Mayaboti, starring Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Yash Rohan in the lead roles, is about a young girl named Maya who fights an uphill battle for justice. It is directed by Arun Chowdhuri. On the other hand, Obotar, which marks Mahiya Mahi’s return to films after a long hiatus, explores the terrible consequences of drug addiction on the youth. Amin Khan plays Mahi’s brother in the film, which is directed by Mahmud Hasan Sikder.
Iftekharuddin Naushad, the owner of Modhumita, informed The Daily Star that Mayaboti performed remarkably well in the first few days of its run, attracting crowds of all ages. The film also opened at Star Cineplex and Blockbuster Cinemas to rave reviews. “We are overwhelmed by the positive response from the audience for Mayaboti,” said Chowdhuri. “It is incredible to see that so many people were touched by the story.” Mayaboti has mainly garnered the interest of school and college students.
Mayaboti has also won the hearts of the masses upon its release. The film opened at several theatres, in and outside Dhaka, to widely positive reviews. “I have visited some theatres, and the response from the audience has been remarkable so far,” said Sikder. “We are glad that people have accepted the film with open arms.”
