2 BCL men suspended for giving death threat to RU student
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the front organisation of ruling Awami League, has suspended two leaders of its Rajshahi University (RU) unit for misbehaving with a student and giving death threat to him.
They were suspended yesterday evening, said a press release signed by BCL central committee’s acting president Nahian Khan Joy and its acting general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya.
Abdul Hoque, deputy mass education affairs secretary, and Abu Hasem, deputy liberation war and research affairs secretary, are residential students of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall of RU.
According to the press release, both Abdul and Hasem violated rules and regulation of the party by misbehaving and giving death threat to a student on Saturday (September 28).
Witness said that the duo went to a room of the residential hall around 1:00am on Saturday and misbehaved with Abdur Rahman Ashik, a Masters student of Mass Communication and Journalism, and gave death threat to him.
Later, they also misbehaved with the campus correspondent of The Daily Star.
RU BCL general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu said, “They were suspended as they violated our party rules. No one will be spared if they engage into such activities”.
Victim Ashik, a former journalist, yesterday filed a written complaint to Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall provost Zahidul Islam.
When contacted, Zahidul Islam said, "We have already formed a three-member probe committee to look into the matter."
