GK Shamim’s 7 bodyguards placed on remand in arms case
Seven bodyguards of GK Shamim, a top government listed contractor who was arrested during a raid against casino, were placed on three-day fresh remand in a case filed under Arms Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate of Mainul Islam passed the order after Sub Inspector Shekhar Chandra Mollick of Rab-1, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a seven-day remand for each.
Rab members on September 20 arrested Shamim on charges of extortion and tender manipulation. His seven bodyguards were also arrested at the time.
On that day, the elite force members raided his house and office in the city’s Niketan and seized eight firearms, a huge amount of ammunition, fixed deposit receipt (FDR) worth Tk 165 crore, around Tk 1.8 crore in cash, a large stash of US and Singaporean dollars and some foreign liquor.
