Abrar murder: 2 more accused held in Sylhet, Satkhira
Detectives today claimed to have arrested two more accused from Sylhet and Satkhira in connection with a case filed over the ruthless killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
The arrestees are identified as Majedul Islam, a 17th batch student of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering department and Shamem Billah, a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering departments of Buet, Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told The Daily Star this afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police (South Dhanmondi) conducted a drive in Shah Kiron area in Sylhet around 4:00am and arrested Majedul, said Masudur Rahman.
Majedul’s name has been mentioned in the First Hand Information (FIR). He will be produced before court later in the day, he said.
Besides, on information, another team of the DB police conducted a raid in Satkhira area around 4:10pm and arrested Shamem Billah from Bhomra bordering area, he said.
Shamem is accused No-14 in the murder case, the police officer said.
With the two, the law enforcement agencies have so far arrested a total 18 people in this connection.
Abrar, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of Buet, died after he was brutally beaten allegedly by some Chhatra League men at a room of the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.
Later, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
The incident triggered a firestorm of protest that dished out all most all educational institutes across the country. Apart from this, many people took to the social media demanding justice for Abrar Fahad.
Law enforcers suspect, Abrar was attacked because of one of his recent Facebook posts, which seemed critical of some recent deals with India.
