4 ‘militants of Ansar AL Islam’ held in Dhaka

Police claimed to have arrested four members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam in Jatrabari area of Dhaka last night.

They were identified as Md Shamim alis Omar, Md Saiful Islam, Md Hanifuzzaman alis Biplab and Md Al Mamun, said Monirul Islam, CTTC chief of Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP), at a press conference at DMP’s media centre.

Acting on a tip-off, CTTC members arrested them from the capital’s Jatrabari area around 7:30pm yesterday, he said adding that three machetes and several training materials were also recovered from their possession.

Monirul said the arrestees were active members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam.

“After recruiting members, the outfit leaders took them to remote areas of the Sundarban to provide them trainings based on the ideology of Ansar Al Islam. Later, they brought back to Dhaka to materialise their plans and targets,” he said.

They used to communicate each other with Facebook messenger group, the police official further said.

A case was filed against them in this connection with Jatrabari Police Station and they were produced before the court seeking 10-day remand prayer.
