A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking an order on the government to ban students and teachers’ politics and ragging at all educational institutions including private universities across the countries.

Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition also requesting the HC to direct the authorities concerned of the government to ensure security of the students at the institutions.

He submitted the writ petition following the death Buet student Abrar murder, who was beaten to death allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League men at a university’s hall on October 7.

In the petition, the lawyer prayed to the High Court to pass an order on the authorities concerned to give adequate compensation to the parents of Abrar Fahad.

Citing the petition, Eunus Ali Akand told The Daily Star that the law and the constitutions do not permit running politics at the educational institutions.

“Abrar was killed due to the student politics which has no logic,” he said.

Buet ban the student politics following the incident of Abrar murder and therefore, politics at all academic institutions should be banned, he said in the petition.

The HC may hold hearing on the writ petition tomorrow, the lawyer said.
