OC transferred days after attending office wearing ‘sherwani’
An officer-in-charge of a police station in Sylhet has been transferred and attached to Rangpur Police Range, two days after district police sought explanation from him for attending office wearing sherwani (groom attire).
SM Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Osmaninagar Police Station, was served the transfer order on October 13, said Aminul Islam, additional superintendent of Police (Media) of Sylhet District police.
In the order, the authorities showed “administrative reason” for his transfer, the police official said.
Mainul Islam, acting OC of the police station, said they arranged a get-together at the police facility on October 10 on completion of OC Mamun’s one-year at the office. Police officers and their families took part in the programme.
On that day, OC Mamun attended office wearing sherwani (groom attire), Mainul said.
“But it no longer remained a get-together when local political leaders joined the function without any invitation,” he added.
Informed, Sylhet District Police on October 11 asked OC Mamun to explain why he attended the office wearing Sherwani. After two days, OC Mamun was transferred and attached to Rangpur police Range.
Some high officials of Sylhet police wishing anonymity told The Daily Star that Mamun was transferred for wearing sherwani which drew flaks in social media.
OC Mamun could not be reached over phone for his comment.
