Celebrating Life 2019: 3 cultural luminaries honoured

Renowned actor Sarah Begum Kabori, musical legend Syed Abdul Hadi and eminent theatre director Syed Jamil Ahmed have been honoured at the award giving ceremony of The Daily Star-Standard Chartered Celebrating Life contest.

The gala event of the Celebrating Life Awards 2019 began at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in capital Dhaka around 7:30pm.

Winners of the contest in the Photography, Lyrics Writing and Film Making categories also received their awards at the programme.

The ceremony started with the welcome speech delivered by Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star. Naser Ezaz Bijoy, chief executive officer, Standard Chartered Bank, Bangladesh, has delivered the vote of thanks.

The photo exhibition was inaugurated by the special guest, Asaduzzaman Noor, a lawmaker and eminent media personality.

Syed Abdul Hadi, Dilruba Khan, Indra Mohan Rajbongshi, Chandana Mazumdar, Fahmida Nabi, Shukonna Mazumder Ghosh, Ismat Ara Eva and Mohammed Shoeb have performed the winning songs of the Standard Chartered-The Daily Star Celebrating Life 2019 Lyrics Contest.

Fahmida Nabi has directed the music of all the songs for this year’s contest. Dancer Warda Rihab and her troupe also performed at the event.

The theme for this year’s contest is “Folk Heritage of Bangladesh.”

Celebrating Life began its journey as a national-level contest in 2008. Many established names of the film, music and photography sectors today found their footing with this unique competition, which looks to encourage and reward aspiring talents.
