Sanskrit play ‘Mudrarakhasa’ staged at JKKNIU
A two-day theatre festival on a single political play titled Mudrarakhasa was staged at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) recently.
Mudrarakshasa is a Sanskrit-language play by Vishakhadatta, that narrates the ascent of King Chandragupta Maurya to power in India.
Chandragupta Maurya successfully unified the Indian subcontinent under one empire, and ruled it from 324 to 297 BC before voluntarily giving the throne up to his son, Bindusara.
The play was translated and directed by Syed Mamun Reza, an Assistant Professor of Department of Theatre and Performance Studies in JKKNIU. The second year students of the department acted in the play as their practical course at Studio Theatre Hall of the university.
The cast of the play were -- Moyeen Khan Billah, Ridoy Das Gautom, Foysal Ahmed Piash, Saklain Arafat, Wasio Al Azizi, Shuvra Deb Chakraborty, A May Prue Marma, Kaniz Fatema Anni, Shawon Roy, Afsana Khatun and Sumaiya Sultana Mim.
