“But, you’re a girl!”
Sure, perhaps you're a 'liberal' and you've evolved enough to not bat a sexist eye when you stumble upon a girl that for some weird reason plays video games – good on you, truly. But regardless of whether you're a man or a woman, you've probably come across some of these reactions to men finding out a woman is gaming.
Look, you're only doing it to impress boys, just admit it. Do you even know how to turn the console on? There's absolutely no way that you aren't doing this for attention, come on, 'gamer girls' either look like a stereotypical 'unattractive' loner or you're just pretending to be one for, well, the attention.
If you're playing ranked or even on a server with a bunch of people and make the agonising mistake of revealing the fact that you are in fact not a man, your every move will now be scrutinised and you'll either be asked to "go make a sandwich" out of bitterness and fragile masculinity, or be subject to crude degrading questions and proclamations. But say you've somehow avoided or survived that, your default role is now a support character because god forbid the team depend on you to carry them, that's absurd.
Okay okay, you play games and it's not for attention. What do you even play? The Sims? Haha, you probably don't even play REAL games. What a noob! And let's not forget, women like The Sims, and it's not really even gaming. Games like those – you know – the ones that women 'tend' to play? Not games at all.
Prove it, name every character, and finesse every move and combo. You finished the story? Tell me, how does it end? Pretty sure you didn't actually finish it, and even if you did, it was probably the easiest difficulty. Haha, women. There's no way you finished THAT game without help.
And if you're a girl trying to buy a game at a store it's either because you're doing it for your boyfriend or well, some man. Because, why would you? You don't even know how to play it, maybe you should pass it to your brother to finish it for you.
