Rift in LDP: Coordination committee formed without Oli
In a dramatic development, a section of leaders of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has formed a seven-member coordination committee keeping its President Oli Ahmad aside.
Shahdat Hossain Selim, former joint secretary general of the party, came up with an announcement in this regard at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka today.
Abdul Karim Abbasi, a former whip of the Parliament and also LDP presidium member, has been made president while Selim made member secretary of the new committee.
“It is impossible to continue politics with Oli Ahmed and thus we have formed a seven-member coordination committee,” Selim said who has been continuing politics with Oli for the last 13 years.
He said the coordination committee will undertake the next course of action through holding discussions with the party’s top leaders and activists.
On October 9 last, Oli Ahmed formed a 203-member new committee of the LDP dropping Abbasi and Selim from it who were presidium member and joint secretary general of the party’s previous committee respectively.
Selim said Oli Ahmed has recently formed Jatiya Muktimoncho with the view to create confusion over the release of BNP’s imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Abbasi said Oli Ahmed introduced LDP as his own property and he does not think about others except his own interests.”
On October 26, 2006, Oli left BNP and formed LDP together with then Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
Later, B Chowdhury quit LDP within a year and revived his party Bangladesh Bikalpa Dhara (BDB) following a conflict with Oli.
Hours after their press conference, LDP President Oli Ahmed said LDP is registered after his name and no one has the rights to do politics using the banner of LDP.
“I established LDP and carrying out my duty as president for the last 12 years. Those who were dropped from the committee are like my brothers and sons. I was not taught to say anything against them,” he said.
Claiming that there are a number of political parties in the country and one more party can emerge, he said while addressing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.
Regarding Jatiya Muktimoncho, Oli said the platform does not believe in politics of vengeance and revenge.
“We will forge a national unity to give democracy and spirit of liberation in an institutional shape,” he added
