Karateka Priya ‘out of danger’ after hit below ear at SA games

Bangladesh's gold-medalist karateka Marzan Akter Priya has been hospitaled after being injured during the team karate final on Wednesday. She is out of danger now after treatment, confirmed karate federation general secretary Kyaw Shwe Hla.

Priya suffered injury after being hit below to her ear while playing against a Sri Lankan opponent. Priya was brought out of the met immediately and taken to hospital via ambulance.

The medical in-charge of the Emergency Dr. Prajwal Man Shreshtha said, “We are investigating her and provided some painkillers because the patient said she felt pain on her neck. She seemed ok now. but we called in a neuro specialist for further investigation.”

Karate federation general secretary said, "She has been taken to a hospital. I just talked to the manager who is now with Priya, she assured me that Priya is alright now. We missed out on a gold medal for her injury.”

Women's kumite team comprising Mounjera Borna, Marzan Akter Priya, Humaira Akther Antara and Naima Khatun however managed to beat Sri Lanka by 2-1 but lost to Pakistan by similar margin without the injured Priya.

Earlier, Priya won Bangladesh's one of three gold medals in karate on Tuesday.
