Death of Japanese woman: Accused on 4-day remand
A Dhaka court today granted a four-day remand for an accused in the Japanese woman killing case in Dhaka.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Kaisarul Islam placed HM Jakir Patowary Roton on the remand after Uttara East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Mia produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
The Japanese citizen, Heroe Miyata, 60, was allegedly murdered and buried by some of her "business partners" nearly a month ago.
The secret burial came to surface in police investigation after a Japanese Embassy official in Dhaka lodged a general diary (GD) on November 19 with Uttara East Police Station, saying she could not be contacted by her mother from Japan for a few days.
Following the GD, police detained five people from different parts of the capital and also lodged a case against them.
The detainees claimed that Miyata has been living at a Uttara hotel but she shifted to a rented house at Bashundhara Residential Area recently as her dues at the hotel were increasing.
