Rab arrest 4 smugglers with 8.10 lakh Yaba in Teknaf

Rapid Action Battalion arrested four people and recovered around 8.10 lakh Yaba pills form their possessions in Rangikhali area of Teknaf today.

The arrestees Nur Alam alias Nur Hafez, 30, Md Sohel, 27, Syed Nur, 27, and Nur Alam alias Kalu, 35, are active members of a Yaba smuggling group known as ‘father and son’ syndicate, Mohammad Mashrur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police, also operation officer of Rab-7, told The Daily Star.

Nur Hafez is one of the key-persons of the syndicate, also a top listed Yaba dealer and named on the Home Ministry list, the Rab official said.

Rab also recovered two foreign pistols, four one shooter guns and 70 rounds of bullets from their possessions, he said.  

Dodging eyes of the law enforcers, they were giving lead of the crazy pink pills trade over the last decade in Teknaf area, the gateway of smuggling the drug into Bangladesh.

Amid the countrywide anti-narcotics drive, they smuggled at least 30 lakh yaba pills into Bangladesh by dividing in four consignments in last 10-month.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) finally able to arrest the four members of the ‘father and son’ syndicates from the Hnila union of Teknaf. 

Though the sons of the syndicate were arrested but their fathers are still on the run.

Nur’s father Yaar Mohammad, Syed’s father Sayed Hossain and Sohel’s father Sabbir Ahmed are involve with the business and they are now on the run, said the operation officer.

Besides, Kalu’s father Dalilur Rahman died two years back but he was also involved with the smuggling, local sources said.
