Tirjak Natyamela 2019 begins today at TIC

To commemorate their 46th founding anniversary, Tirjak Natyadal, a renowned theatre troupe of Chattagram, has organised a five-day (December 25-29) Tirjak Natyamela 2019 at the Theatre Institute Chattagram (TIC) auditorium in the port city.

Renowned thespians Bibhash Chakraborty and Mamunur Rashid will inaugurate the Tirjak Natyamela and Natya-Smarok Exhibition at 4:30pm today at the venue. Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud will attend the inaugural event as the chief guest, while Chattagram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin will attend the programme as the special guest, among others. Eminent educationalist and sociologist Dr Anupam Sen will preside over the ceremony. 

The theatre festival will feature shows of different plays every day at 7pm. Besides, the organisers will screen documentaries on theatre and thespians, along with various programmes like discussions, art competitions, instrumental recitals and cultural events, shedding light on dance, music, mime and theatre, on every other days at the Open Stage, Gallery and Lecture Theatre of TIC.

On the opening evening, Tirjak Natyadal will stage Syed Waliullah's play, Tarangabhango. Natyachakra (Dhaka) will stage their play, Eka Ek Nari, on December 26. Members of Tirjak will also stage a Greek tragedy Oedipus by Sophocles on December 27 evening. Theatre Factory (Dhaka) will stage a Mohan Rakesh play, Ashadhasya Prothom Diboshe, on December 28, while Upstage (Dhaka) will stage a Buddhadeb Basu play, Raat Bhore Brishti, on the concluding day of the festival. 

Founded in 1974, Tirjak Natyadal, has so far staged 2,786 shows of their 44 theatre productions.
