BTV celebrates 55 years
Bangladesh Television (BTV) is a name which readily generates nostalgia in most of us. Before the era of private television channels began in Bangladesh, BTV served as the sole source of information and entertainment for the audience. An array of artistes began theirs career on the platform. This year, BTV celebrated their 55th birth anniversary.
What began as Pakistan Television in 1964, was renamed Bangladesh Television after the Liberation War in 1971. BTV turned from monochrome to colour broadcasting in the 1980s. Today, according to the BTV archives, more than 2 million televisions receive transmissions from the network’s 17 relay stations. In 2004, BTV started worldwide broadcasts through their satellite based branch, BTV World.
In celebration of their 55th birth anniversary, BTV hosted various programmes yesterday. On the other hand, Channel i, like every year, organised many special events on the day. Renowned singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya performed in an episode of Channel i’s Gaane Gaane Shokal Shuru, marking BTV’s birth anniversary. Artistes from different generations also performed on the show, which was aired live on Channel i and BTV from 7:30 am to 9 am.
