AL MP Yunus passes away
Awami League lawmaker from Gaibandha-3 Yunus Ali Sarker died at a hospital in Dhaka this morning. He was 67.
He breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 7:30am.
Yunus had been suffering from lung cancer for a long time now and was admitted to BSMMU five months ago, Awami League sources said.
He was elected as a parliament member from Sadullahpur-Palashbari constituency of Gaibandha for the first time in 2014.
The lawmaker left behind his wife and two sons to mourn his death.
He had been suffering from respiratory health complications, said Khandker Zillur Rahman, Senior Vice-President of Sadullapur Upazila Awami League.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed sorrow and deep shock at the death of AL lawmaker Yunus Ali Sarker, reports BSS.
In a condolence message, the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
AL General Secretary, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, in a separate message, also condoled the death of the Gaibandha MP.
Besides, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also expressed shock and sorrow at the MP’s death.
