Two people, including a local Jubo League leader, were arrested today in a case filed over the rape of a madrasa student in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj.

The accused have been identified as Md Turjo, 22, and acting president of Kashipur union Jubo League unit Anisur Rahman Shyamol, 35, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

The duo was arrested following a case filed with Fatullah Model Police Station by the victim’s mother this morning.

On January 19, Turjo abducted the girl, confined her in a flat with the help of his friends and then raped her, Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station was quoted as saying.

Turjo who regularly stalked the 14-year-old on her way to the madrasa was arrested during a raid at Kashipur today. Meanwhile, Jubo League leader Shyamol was arrested on charge of assisting the key accused in fleeing the scene, the police official said.

The girl’s family started looking for her after she did not return home till 10pm yesterday and later acting on locals’ information, rescued her from the flat.

She was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment.
