Govt forms 7 committees to control price of rice in the market
The government has formed seven special monitoring committees to control price of rice in the market.
The initiative was taken by the Food Ministry in a bid to prevent increasing price of rice in the market through illicit means, according to a press release of the ministry issued today.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumder gave the necessary directives to the top officials of the ministry in this regard at the Secretariat today, the release read.
The monitoring committees -- four under the Food Ministry and three under the Food Directorate -- have been formed to check price hike of food grains in the market, assist low income groups, keep market price steady and ensure fair price to farmers.
The committees will inspect the wholesale markets under Dhaka metropolitan area to monitor prices of rice and flour and submit reports in this regard, according to the release.
On December 1 last year, the government launched a control room and a special monitoring team to keep price of rice stable in the market. The control room will remain active and anyone can complain by dialling the control room’s contact number 02-9540027 and 01642967727, the release added.
