Off-Facebook Activity: An important privacy tool
Popular social media site Facebook has recently launched a tool for its users to strengthen the privacy of their personal information.
By using the new tool, Off-Facebook Activity, the users can erase or moderate their personal information which are being used by third-party sites or applications.
The tool was first introduced in the Facebook Developers’ Conference in 2018. Since then, only the users of a few specific locations were able to use this tool.
Recently Facebook launched the tool for all its users.
How to use Off-Facebook Activity tool:
-- Log in to your Facebook account and go to Settings
-- Select “Your Facebook Information” in the Settings
-- Select “Off-Facebook Information” (here is the direct link to the tool https://www.facebook.com/off_facebook_activity/)
-- Here you will have different explanations related to Facebook’s tracking, along with banners of some websites and applications used by you. By clicking the icon for the applications you will have details about their sources.
-- In the list, you will have all the information shared to Facebook by third-parties. You may erase the information by clicking “Clear History” option.
-- To stop tracking, go to “Menu”, then select “Manage Your Off-Facebook Activity”, then toggle “Future Off-Facebook Activity” option. By doing so, you make sure that Facebook will not participate in any such activity. However, it will not stop the third-parties from sending information to Facebook.
