College student murdered in Rangpur: police
The body of a female student of Phulbari Government College in Dinajpur, who police believe was strangled to death, was recovered in Rangpur this morning, a day after she went missing from the district's Badarganj upazila.
The deceased is Rumaiya Aktar Rumi, 22, daughter of Md Badruzzaman of Munsipara village in Badarganj and a first-year political science honours student.
According to her family, she had left home around 10:00am on Saturday, telling her parents that she had some work in Rangpur. That was the last they heard from her, despite family members searching for her till late Saturday night.
The residents of Mominpur village, under Rangpur Sadar upazila, found her body floating in a jute sack under a bridge around 9:00am on Sunday. Later, UP Chairman Sultana Aktar Kalpana called police.
Police recovered her body around 9:30am, and sent the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue for autopsy, said Md Sajedur Rahman Officer in Charge of Rangpur Sadar police station.
The OC said they believed that she was strangled to death on Saturday night and were unclear about the motive of the murder.
No case had been filed with the police station till Sunday afternoon.
