Suspected human trafficker held, 4 rescued in Baridhara DOHS
A suspected human trafficker was detained and four people were rescued during a Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raid of a travel agency office in the capital's Baridhara DOHS area tonight.
The elite force also seized seven walkie-talkies and 100 passports from "Winner International Travel", Rab-2 Squad Commander Shahidul Islam, assistant superintendent of police, told The Daily Star.
The detainee is Abdulla Al Mamun, owner of the travel agency, the Rab official said, adding he trafficked people abroad through his agency.
Apart from this, he took money from people, enticing them with promises of sending them abroad, the Rab official said.
Having started around 7:00pm, the drive is still ongoing.
According to the Winner International Travel website, the agency has been involved in the manpower sector since 2006.
They handle visas for Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Qatar, Kuwait, Maldives, Iraq, Bahrain, Oman and Taiwan. They also advertise job placements abroad.
