Death toll in Eskaton building fire rises to 4

The death toll in the fire that broke out in a building at Eskaton on Thursday has now risen to four after one more person died this morning.

Jannatul Ferdous, 38, who was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute with 95 percent burns, died around 9:35am, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the institute, told The Daily Star.

Three people, including a child, died soon after the fire broke out that day.

The deceased were Jannatul's four-year-old son AKM Rushdi, and two others -- a buying house staffer Abdul Kader Liton, 40, and a Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Student Afrin Jahan Juthi, 17.

Jannatul's husband Rony, 40, who suffered 95 percent inhalation burns in the devastating fire, remains on life support at the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic surgery.

The fire originated in the five-storey building on Dilu Road around 4:30am. Eight units of firefighters reached the spot around 4:40am and brought the blaze under control around 5:00am.
