Fakhrul demands cancellation of Rehman’s remand
Terming the arrest of senior journalist Shafik Rehman “inhuman”, BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today demanded Rehman’s immediate release after cancelling his remand.
“Those who express opinions against the government are harassed and arrested,” the BNP leader told journalists after meeting Rehman’s wife Taleya Rehman at her Eskaton residence in Dhaka.
Rehman, a pro-BNP intellectual, was arrested from his Eskaton residence yesterday and placed on a five-day remand in a case for alleged attempts to abduct and murder prime minister's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
The case was filed by Detective Branch of Police Inspector Fazlur Rahman with Paltan Police Station in August last year.
